I feel as old as I did yesterday. Same answer I gave My mom when I went to see her tonight.

I worked today. By the end of the day I felt as if I should have taken the day off, just for myself. Went to the beach, or to a park and enjoy the really pretty day. But I spent it in traffic, and in a truck with no airconditioning.

Not that the day was so unpleasant, but it could have been better. My dad left me a card on the kitchen table from him and my mom. It wasnt a humerous card, as is the norm but maybe it had something to do with the way things are going lately.

In a stop today a manager described something he saw while on the way home from work last night. On a major highway, at 11pm he witnessed a motorcycle screaming past him on his right side, via the emergency shoulder at a high rate of speed. 120mph or better by his estrimate. After passing him the bike took a left turn to get into the middle lane to pass more cars but a SUV made a left move to the middle as well and couldnt have possibly seen the bike rider in time to cancel his manuever. By the eye witness account of the manager who had to witness this the rider on the motorcycle hit the rear of the SUV broadside, probably in a last ditch attempt to swerve and avoid the impact. He died immediately. Laying in a pool of blood late last night. Why?

Driving back to the terminal traffic started getting heavy. We found out why shortly afterward. The traffic in the opposite lanes were empty, and the yellow tape spoke volumes. They only tape off a scene for one reason. A fatality. Getting closer the scene played out like what the manager told me earlier. A motorcycle, was laying on its side right near a T intersection from a side road. It looked like it had exploded on impact. And the ground had appeared to be scorched. This is what I believed took place:

Around here, on long open stretches of road young men on their motorcycles pop wheelies, or accelerate as fast as they can until they come to a stop, or a light. Some weave in and out of traffic pissing everyone else off by their lack of manners and breaking of the law. This poor fellow obviously took advantage of a open lane of highway, and sped up at a high rate of speed. He saw there was a car in the left lane who was blocking him so he swerved right into the open lane, but at the same time as a car was exiting the side road into what was (at the time) an open lane. It was his high rate of speed, and the manuevering which brought him to hit the side or front of the vehicle in that lane. Dead on impact. Why?

This is where Ghost explains why the laws of nature, and physics win over bravado, and stupidity.

I dont care how quick your reflexes are (in your mind) there are some things you cant control. Our first corpse was speeding in excess of 120mph. He hit a SUV doing maybe 60-65mph. He hit a solid object at no less than 60mph with nothing between him and steel. His inertia wasnt enough for his body to overcome the mass and volume of the vehicle he hit. He was road pizza.

Same goes for corpse number two. Both of these gentle man the mistake of assuming they were in control. High performance motorcycles are alot of fun, exhilierating and addictive for sure. Heck, Id love to own one but realistically I know My odds get worse for survival on one. They accelerate at such high speeds in such a short time they are unable to have the same level of manueverability they would doing the speed limit. Even the highest perfromance cars with double the traction with four wheels on the pavement can only run the slalom course in the mid 70mph range.

These motorcycles were speeding at DOUBLE that rate. If you really think you can steer that bike at that speed without hitting anything you really are a moron. Just like bullets when objects at high speed are thrown off a straight path, they travel at greater distances in a sideways tangent faster, and are unable to stop that motion in a timely manner. Namely once you turn it will take nearly twice the distance to recover from that move. Rocket man 1 and 2 couldnt compensate fast enough for the lightening up their ass.

As tragic as this is, I have zero pity for both of them. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They just never got caught doing it. Because we all know we only regret misbehaving when we get caught. But in those cases what caught them was the reaper. They gambled and lost. Now if people would only learn, and apply that lesson to the choices they make. We would all be safer.

You are not a superman. You are not in vincible. You will become putty if you get stupid. And your family will suffer for it.

I didnt get a random bday kiss. Not like I ever have, but someday it would be nice to get.
