Semper Fidelis...

Always Faithful. Always ready for what comes next, and sick of waiting for it to come.

Today is the Marine Corp Birthday. Nov 10th 1775.

230 years of glorious service to a country who isnt as old as the ones who protected her even in her infancy. First to fight, first to die. Marines do what they are told, and do it well. Tradionally Marines are treated to several customary indulgences which are only given on Nov 10th.

Warriors breakfast: Steak and eggs. Served even in the field it will be prepared offsite and shipped to Marines wherever they are.

Warrior feast: Steak and Lobster for dinner. Regardless of locale, and place nothing is held back to honor fighting men and women who were the EGA.

Marine Corp Ball: Dressed in their finest Marines gather worldwide to celebrate the coming of another year of service. The oldest Marine and youngest Marine present cut the cake. Speeches are made, which have not changed in the history of the Corp. And then we get drunk.

I worked today, but ate well for breakfast. Thinking of how I would celebrate today I wore My cover (hat to civilians) with My EGA (eagle, globe, anchor) on it as a visual symbol of pride. Marines are currently dying overseas....I was also honoring them. When work completed I decided to go see a movie. Three guess which one.

Jarhead.

Despite the derogatory nature of the term it is the title of the movie. It is a word reserved only for Marines to call to other Marines. Or we will rip you a new asshole, and unscrew your head. Just like calling a black person a n***** it isnt appropriate. So dont get stupid. You were warned.

Great movie. Very direct, correct and to the point. But very graphic as well. It shows the lonliness of Marine life. Girlfriends, and wives giving up, or cheating on us when we are away, with no options. How we bleed together, fight together, and one another at times. It is a warriors life. A thankless life, one which is hard to explain to any who have not walked on yellow footprints before.

After the movie I had a Warrior feast. Steak and Lobster. Nothing less would do. But the girls at the restuarant didnt know who Marines were. Pitiful. But the food was good.

The movie made me feel good. It justified alot of the emotions I have been feeling deep inside as not somehting strange, or unusual. Just because a Marine, a warrior leaves the rifle behind. The rifle never leaves him. It will always be a part of his life, his thinking and his future. Preparing for war it isnt easy letting go. Sometimes it is impossible. For me I am most happy with My rifles, or sidearms. Or shooting, training myself for a possible conflict even at work. Maybe thats why i chose security work. The possibility of conflict. Its sort of like having a itch you cant scratch. You can almost taste it on the back of your tongue but it never comes forward. You never see the enemy in the crosshairs. But still you wait for them to appear.

The call to arms doesnt come. Only silence and the rememberance of standing tall beside your family. Your brothers in arms. Even in the worst of times you were one with each other. And the seperation of that is also hard to bear.

Happy Birthday devildogs.....

Semper Fi, and rest easy...
